After flying for Piedmont Airlines and then USAirways for 20 years, I decided it was time to keep my feet on the ground. I took a company buyout in May 2005 and have spent the past year trying to keep up with my13-year-old son, Dylan. I am currently doing some free-lance work for Business North Carolina magazine which I am mostly able to do from home.
Gary and I will
celebrate our 20th anniversary this year. Gary is the sports editor
for The Herald here in Rock Hill. Before coming here we spent 2 ½
years in Bloomington, Indiana where he covered Indiana University
sports, mostly football and basketball.
Dylan plays the
saxaphone in the school's Honor Band and qualified for South Carolina
Region band this year. He will begin marching band at the high school
this fall. He also plays the guitar and is very involved in baseball.
Two years ago he played with a team that competed in a week-long
tournament in Cooperstown, New York.
We all enjoy
travel though we generally prefer road trips. Our most memorable trip
was a 17-day, 21-state trek. We went out west with just a general
plan of the areas we wanted to see. We visited nine national parks
including Mt. Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Yellowstone, Tetons, Badlands,
Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon and Devil's Tower. We also drove parts of
Route 66 and visited the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa.
In my spare time I have become hooked on scrapbooking. I'm working hard to put all those great memories into books I can enjoy when I'm too old to travel any more. It's always fun to look back and occasionally I pull out those old Fletcher photos too.
